Licensure Exam Score Appeal Procedure
How you can challenge the score of a state licensure examination
How you can challenge the score of a state licensure examination
The following can appeal an exam:
A candidate must file a notice of appeal within 14 days from the delivery date of the score. File the notice via the Healthcare Professionals Portal; the option is available on the score webpage.
A text message (SMS) confirming that the notice of appeal has been received will be sent to candidates who file the notice through the portal; it will be emailed to candidates without access to the portal.
NOTE: If a score is changed to 58 or 59 as the outcome of the (first and only) appeal, it is not possible to appeal again.
You are required to bring a form of identification and you must be on the list of appellants. If you are not on the list, you will not be allowed to review the exam. Bring with you the books specified in the mandatory bibliography of the licensure exam.
You cannot be accompanied into the appeal hall; mobile phones or any electronic devices that can record or take pictures are not allowed. It is not allowed to bring into the appeal hall any books or documents other than the ones specified on the Department of Nursing Licensure Exams' mandatory bibliography.
Once the appeal procedure and exam reviewing begin, you are not allowed to leave the hall; you are not allowed to help other appellants or get help from others; and you must remain quiet during viewing. The Department of Nursing Licensure Exams will look at any suspicion of a breach of policy.
The Department of Nursing Licensure Exams will receive the appeal form from the appellant and will forward it to experts. The Department only accepts appeals submitted on viewing day.
A written decision will be given within 45 days after filing an appeal. The decision will include a discussion of the grounds you have provided based on academic literature. If any exam question is disqualified because of your appeal, the scores of all relevant exams will be recalculated.
