The project is intended for new immigrant registered nurses who graduated from nursing programs abroad. Its goal is to promote accessibility, availability, flexibility, efficiency, and support, enabling participants to integrate quickly into Israeli society and the workforce.
Project principles
The integration program for new immigrant registered nurses is based on several key principles:
- Availability: Preparation courses supervised by the Ministry of Health are offered throughout the country and are opened in areas with a high concentration of new immigrants. For information regarding eligibility, course schedules, and locations of preparation courses offered through the project, please contact the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration or the Certification Department of the Nursing Division by email at: hasmacha.hull@MOH.GOV.IL. When contacting us, please provide identifying information, including your full name, telephone number, and Israeli identity card number.
- Flexibility: The pace of your professional integration depends largely on you. You may choose to submit documents for professional recognition and begin learning Hebrew before immigrating to Israel or after your arrival. You may participate in a preparation course for the state licensure examination or take the examination without such preparation. You may also take the examination in Hebrew or in another approved language and submit proof of Hebrew language proficiency afterward. The process offers considerable flexibility with respect to its duration and the sequence of steps leading to the issuance of your registration certificate.
- Efficiency: Participants may join a structured professional integration track lasting up to six months, which includes a preparation course and registration for the state licensure examination.
- Support: Throughout the integration process, you will receive personal and professional guidance from the Nursing Division and the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration.
Project stages
Pre-immigration stage
This stage enables you to begin the integration process while still residing in your country of origin and includes the following components:
- Professional recognition of nursing qualifications: You may apply for professional recognition of your nursing qualifications before immigrating to Israel. To do so, you must prepare the required documents and submit them to the Nursing Division.
- Orientation module for registered nurses in Israel: You may use the online Orientation Module to become familiar with the structure of Israel's healthcare system and the laws, regulations, and professional directives required for practice as a Registered Nurse in Israel. The module may be completed independently, at your own pace and on your own schedule, in any of six available languages.
- Hebrew language proficiency: Proof of Hebrew language proficiency is required for registration in the Register of Licensed Nursing Professionals in Israel. Studying Hebrew at a basic level before immigrating to Israel can help facilitate this stage of the integration process. For additional information.
Preparation course for the state licensure examination
The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, offers a preparation course for new immigrants who completed nursing education abroad and whose qualifications have been recognized by the Nursing Division as registered nurses in Israel.
Some important information about the preparation course:
- The professional curriculum is determined by the Nursing Division and is offered only through approved training institutions. The program is conducted several times each year at locations throughout Israel (course openings are subject to a minimum number of participants).
- The course is funded by the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration.
- Eligible participants receive a living allowance and partial reimbursement of travel expenses throughout the course period.
- The course includes individualized tutoring sessions and study materials in participants' native languages, based on individual needs.
Participants who meet all course requirements, successfully complete the program, and achieve a final weighted grade of 70 or higher will be eligible to receive up to 10 additional points on their state licensure examination score.
Simulated licensure examination
New immigrants may choose to take a simulated licensure examination as an alternative to the written state licensure examination.
The simulated licensure examination is available to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:
- Hold new immigrant status in accordance with the criteria established by the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration.
- Have been recognized by the Nursing Division as registered nurses.
- Be eligible to take the specific state licensure examination session for which they are applying.
- Have submitted official employment documentation demonstrating at least three consecutive years of nursing experience during the past ten years in a recognized general hospital or community healthcare setting abroad.
To inquire about eligibility for the simulated licensure examination, please contact the Certification Department by email at: hasmacha.hull@MOH.GOV.IL. When contacting the department, please include your full name, date of immigration to Israel, and Israeli identity card number.
