Why did you decide to study nursing?

The desire to study a profession whose purpose is to help people.

Study period

I studied at Ariel University. This is a significant, busy, difficult period, but mostly enjoyable with many good memories together with good people.

If You Can Remember Me for Something, Remember Me for One Thing – That I Wanted to Be Good (Hanan Porat)

What are you doing today?

Towards the end of my bachelor's degree, and working at the same time as a nursing student in C nursing ward at Shaare Zedek Hospital.

You are invited to watch the "Spoken Word" segment about nursing studies that I wrote in the first year of studies.

I study nursing,

And feel a little lost

Are you studying nursing? That's what everyone asks

They look me in the eyes and do not digest.

What is nursing anyway?

They ask me and give me a confused look.

Wait, nursing isn't those at the hospital?

The ones whose diapers are changed all day?

The same people who make the showers,

And serve meals to the sick.

I understood that they also change the sheets,

And have to take care of visitors as well.

You, see? I don't need refinement,

I figured out on my own what nursing is.

I study nursing,

And feel a little lost

Are you studying nursing? They continue with the questions

Isn't it called nurses school?

Isn't it supposed to be a profession for women?

They look at me and raise an eyebrow.

Why does a man choose such a profession?

After all, you need tenderness when treating a wounded person.

You are a man! You have abilities!

So why did you go to a girl's place?

I think you need some focus,

You don't belong in nursing.

I study nursing, and feel a little lost
Are you studying nursing? They ask in surprise. Why didn't you go to study medicine?

I study nursing,

And feel a little lost

Are you studying nursing? They ask in surprise.

Why didn't you go to study medicine?

If you have already chosen a field, go for the real thing.

A much better and higher quality profession.

Look at the doctors, they are important people.

Treating people and doing surgeries.

And what do you want to be?

Another one of those nurses?

Those who are in the background without anyone noticing?

And from time to time are asked to serve some dish?

If you already study, at least study something good,

So that you will have to think and invest a little.

Something that people will appreciate.

And maybe add some compliment,

Don't you understand that you are in a place that is less considered?

And you have to be more calculated?

I think you need uniqueness,

Maybe upgrade from nursing?

I study nursing,

And don't feel lost at all.

Because I want to be a nurse!

But not just any nurse.

A successful and dynamite one!

Not a brother like Bennet, who is in everyone's sights.

And not a brother like Lapid, who tries to separate everyone.

Not a brother like a little brother, who is cute and not so protected

And not a brother like a stepbrother, who always wants to prosecute you.

But a brother, with the uniform and the white robe.

One, when you see him and straight feel great.

A brother who went and chose nursing to study.

Not because he can't handle other things.

He is no less than all the others.

Only he understands the face of things,

Nursing is a very difficult profession.

Anatomy, pharmacology, microbiology and pathology we have to study.

Nursing is a field that requires a lot of strength.

Because sick and injured people are the customers,

Because nurses hold the ward,

And without them the doctors would look like a joke.

Because while the doctors are operating the patients

We are fighting to our teeth,

We need to take care of Mr. Moshe who is suffering,

That at us is angry and curses all day.

And we also have to take care of Mrs. Rachel,

Although it is us, she blames for the urologists' mistakes,

Need to take care of the medicines, to be distributed without any confusion,

Because if something happens, trouble will come like a flood,

Because when nurses start the shift,

Only God knows how it will end.

And sometimes amidst all the madness and chaos,

It's worth stopping and take a look

At the patient with the glowing eyes

Which just wants to congratulate and thank us

Because without us how would he survive,

A man so old and lonely

And it's all worth it,

And they won't be able to steal that from us.

The gratitude and love

That is worth al the sacrifice.

I study nursing,

And see it as a calling.
