Nurses who specialize in psychiatry will provide medical care to patients who turn to mental health wards and clinics. What does the program include, and how to submit an application?
Psychiatry nurse practitioner administer medical care to patients who turn to mental health clinics in the community or to mental health wards in a hospital setting. Among other things, they administer medical care in acute situations and will balance chronic patients in the field of mental health, prevent illness and promote health and provide guidance and counseling to patients and their families.
Main activity of psychiatry nurse practitioner:
• Checking the patient and assessing their situation.
• Referring the patients to diagnostic tests and to counselors for purposes of continued investigation or treatment.
• Determining the medical treatment and administering therapeutic instructions.
• Balancing the medication regimen.
• Balancing the symptoms.
• Coordinating the treatment, coordination with therapeutic settings, providing guidance and counseling for patients and their family members.
• Promoting health and preventing illness.
Study program
The duration of the study program is about a year and it consists of 726 academic hours, of which:
- 326 theoretical academic hours
- 400 clinical academic hours
At a format of 2-3 study days a week.
Prerequisites for applying for the program:
- You have both a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree that are recognized in the State of Israel.
- One of the degrees must be in nursing.
- You have been employed in the field of psychiatry for at least two years.
- You have successfully completed and met the requirements of an post-basic psychiatry course.

- Certificates attesting to education (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, post-basic course).
- Signature of the human resources department at the institution that employs you, approving employment in the field, on a public appeal form (Appendix 2).
- Reference letter by the nursing management at the employing institution.
