The Department for Professional Development in the Nursing Division is concerned with shaping and re-defining the nurses' role and adapting them to the changing needs of the healthcare system and the global trends in the field of nursing.

Roles of the Professional Development Department
- Developing and shaping senior positions in nursing and adapting them to the needs of the healthcare system and the Ministry of Health's policies.
- Developing specialization fields in nursing in order to provide a professional and high-quality response for the treatment of required fields, including determining fields of specialization and pre-requisites, in accordance with the acceptable standards around the world.
- Determining specialist training programs, accrediting training programs and ensuring that specialists meet the specialization programs' standards.
- Assuming responsibility for the optimal implementation of the various specialization fields in the healthcare system and updating core work to meet the changes and on-the-scene needs.
- Leading and activating the specialization programs in policymaking and in administration.
