The First Breast Care Coordinator in Israel, and promoter of this career path
The editor of the magazine Oncology Nursing and a member of the board of the association for the promotion of oncology nursing.
I began my professional career at Hadassah Ein Kerem in 1987. In 1992, after completing my Master's degree, I returned to work at Hadassah Ein Kerem in the bone marrow ward, and later in the oncology ward. During this period, I developed the position of "Breast Health Coordinator Nurse" the first in Israel.
I started this challenging position with the support of the nursing services at Hadassah and the Cancer Society. The professional relationship with the association has been maintained ever since.
Thanks to this position, I was elected to the committee of the European Organization for Oncology Nursing, in addition I joined the committee of
the organization for the promotion of oncology nursing, of which I am a member to this day. To my delight, I was selected for the position of chief editor of "Oncology Nursing" our wonderful newspaper. I also wrote "Midway", a book for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
I am currently an academic advisor in the oncology ward of the nursing services and a senior lecturer at the Hadassah School of Nursing and the Hebrew University, at the Faculty of Medicine, in Jerusalem. The position of consultant in which I have been engaged for about three years is unique to Hadassah: academic nurses help and support nurses from the field by conducting research in their wards, publishing the research and presenting it at conferences.
I'll tell you about a single lawyer who decided to adopt a boy or a girl herself and one day it happened…
Her best friend, a senior nurse practitioner at Hadassah, called me asking me to come to her office immediately. I arrived met the patient who had just received the diagnosis, right after deciding to adopt a baby, would she be even able to adopt? This topic also came up in our conversation, in which we strengthened and encouraged the patient and together we started the process. The patient was transferred to surgery and complementary oncological treatment, while I provide her with close supervision.
I am happy to share the happy ending of the story: the treatment ended successfully , the lawyer adopted a wonderful daughter who is now a mature and successful girl.
