The course is designed to provide nurses with extensive tools and knowledge for the diagnosis and treatment of children in critical conditions.
This advanced course is part of a children’s cooperative acute chronic module, intended for those studying the fields of pediatric/neonatal/newborn intensive care.

The course syllabus in the field of pediatric intensive care is focused on assessment of signs and symptoms, analysis methods, deciding treatment and assessment of critical and complex conditions in children. These conditions include system and multi-system failure such as respiratory distress, hemodynamic compromise, shock states, neurological deficits, altered states of consciousness, disturbances of fluids and electrolytes, disturbances in urination and kidney function, disturbances in the digestive system, immune system, and the endocrine system.
The course is designed to help you develop skills in supporting and guiding families of children in complex and acute conditions.
Clinical practice will help you develop skills for treating patients in acute conditions, save lives, perform physical assessments according to body systems, and implement unusual procedures and field-specific nursing activities.
The curriculum includes theoretical study hours and clinical practice hours.
Clinical practice is conducted in 2 tracks, according to the prior clinical experience of the students.
Track A is designed for students have been employed for at least a year in a row on a full-time basis, or equivalent, in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and it includes 313 hours of study, of which:
• 213 hours of theoretical study
• 100 hours of clinical practice
Track B is designed for students with no clinical experience in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and it includes 513 hours, of which:
213 hours of theoretical study
300 hours of clinical practice
To be accepted to track A studies, you must bring a declaration form, signed by the Nursing Administration in the institution you work, attesting that you have been employed a year in a row, at least, in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, on a full-time basis, or equivalent. You must send the form when starting your studies.

After meeting the studies requirements and completion of studies, and for the purpose of being registered as an advanced nursing course graduate, you must successfully pass the licensure exam. The exam content and structure change from course to course and are adapted to the field and knowledge acquired.
In this course you will take the licensure exam in a simulation-based method.
The simulation licensure exams include clinically representative conditions, which visualize reality, and to handle them one should make use of the knowledge and psychomotor and communication skills acquired in the course.
The exam includes switching between different stations (simulations), determined according to the characteristics of the field of training you have studied.

The licensure simulation exams for the advanced nursing courses are held in MSR – The Israel Center for Medical Simulation – The National Education Center for Health Professions, The Chaim Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.
