The course deals with the estimation of signs and symptoms in premature and newborn babies in critical and complex conditions.
This advanced course is part of a children’s cooperative acute module, intended for those studying pediatric/neonatal/newborn intensive care.

The advanced course syllabus in the field of neonatal intensive care is focused on the assessment of signs and symptoms in premature and newborn babies in critical and complex conditions, analysis methods, and deciding on treatment and assessment. These conditions include multi-system failures such as nervous system disorders, digestive system disorders, respiratory disorders, cardiovascular system disorders, and visual and auditory disorders. The program also deals with unique aspects of hospitalizing premature babies in the neonatal unit and focuses on prevention of infections in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, as well as with ethical and legal aspects (the threshold of viability, resuscitation and the parents’ wishes).
In addition, the course is designed to help you develop skills in supporting and guiding families of premature babies in prolonged hospitalization situations, as well as in conditions of pain, body temperature regulation, stimulation, promotion of motor and social development, etc.
Clinical practice will help you develop skills for treating premature babies in acute conditions, provide nursing care for premature babies in prolonged hospitalization, and perform physical assessments according to body systems, as well as implement unusual procedures and field-specific nursing activities.
The curriculum includes theoretical study hours and clinical practice hours.
Clinical practice is conducted in 2 tracks, according to the prior clinical experience of the students.
Track A is designed for students who have been employed for at least a year in a row on a full-time basis or equivalent, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and it includes 318 hours of study, of which:

To be accepted to track A studies, you must bring a declaration form, signed by the Nursing Administration in the institution you work, attesting that you have been employed a year in a row, at least, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, on a full-time basis, or equivalent. You must send the form when starting your studies.

After meeting the studies requirements and completion of studies, and for the purpose of being registered as an advanced nursing course graduate, you must successfully pass the licensure exam. The exam content and structure change from course to course and are adapted to the field and knowledge acquired.
In this course you will take the licensure exam in a simulation-based method.
The simulation licensure exams include clinically representative conditions, which visualize reality, and to handle them one should make use of the knowledge and psychomotor and communication skills acquired in the course.
The exam includes switching between different stations (simulations), determined according to the characteristics of the field of training you have studied.

The licensure simulation exams for the advanced nursing courses are held in MSR – The Israel Center for Medical Simulation – The National Education Center for Health Professions, the Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.
