Treatment of the mentally ill and their families outside of hospitalization
The advanced course in mental health care teaches about patients dealing with mental disorders in hospitalization, in community and as part of day care, and gives tools and knowledge on the subject.
The advanced course in mental health care focuses on the unique characteristics of the treatment of people dealing with mental disorders while striving to integrate them, as much as possible, within the community and within the ambulatory (treatment outside of hospitalization), along with personalized treatment.
The course will provide you with knowledge and skills that will allow you to provide comprehensive and professional treatment, the course will emphasize treatment management processes and the performance of professional estimates that affect the patient's intervention and rehabilitation plan, as well as locating and identifying side effects as a result of medication treatment situations that require immediate intervention, providing initial treatment for these problems and referring the patient to continue treatment with the appropriate agencies.
The clinical experiencing will focus on learning and practicing clinical decision – making required to treat the defined situations, on skills unique to the field and on managing the care of the mentally ill and his family.
Study program
The curriculum includes 590 hours, of which:
366 theoretical study hours
224 hours of clinical experience.
Prerequisite for applying to the program
- You are citizens or residents of Israel.
- You have certified nurse license in the State of Israel.
- You have a bachelor's degree in nursing.
An accredited degree in nursing is a degree accredited by interinstitutional committee at the Salary and Employment Agreements Department at the Ministry of Finance. The list of degrees is updated from time to time in the circular: "Academic degrees accredited for salary purposes in the civil service, Clalit Health Services and Hadassah Medical Center and Shaare Zedek Medical Center - nursing" (Hebrew). - You have passed the selection examination for the advanced courses in nursing with a score of 70 or higher and the score is valid (3 calendar years from the date of the exam) or if you are entitled to an exemption from a selection examination.

State licensure examination
After graduation and in order to register an advanced course graduate in the nursing register you must successfully pass the State Nursing Board Licensure Examination.
The content and the structure of the exam vary from course to course and are adapted to the field and knowledge acquired in them.
In the mental health course, you will pass licensing exams using a simulation method.
The simulation licensing exams include representative clinical situations, simulating reality, in order to solve them you must use the psychomotor and communication knowledge and skills you worked on in the course. Exam passing grade is 60.
The exam includes a transition between different stations (simulations), which are determined according to the characteristics of the field of training you studied. Among the different stations:
- Execution station simulator (dummy).
- Simulation station versus a player.
- An investigation station about the simulation against a player.
- Analysis station describing a clinical situation using a video/audio tape (computerized).
- Knowledge stations in front of a computer – 50 multiple – choice questions ("American test)
The licensing exams in simulation for advanced courses are held at "Messer" – the National Center for Medical Simulation- the National Training Building for Health Workers at the Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.
