Wound, ostomy, and continence nurse practitioners manage the treatment of various wounds or stoma and urinary and fecal continence. What does the curriculum include and how to apply?
Wound, ostomy, and continence nurse practitioners provide medical care for acute wound and wounds that are difficult to heal, as well as manage the treatment of diseases related to the treatment of patients with wound, patients with various types of stoma and patients suffering from urinary and fecal continence.
Main activity of wound, ostomy, and continence nurse practitioners:
- Managing the treatment of patients with acute wounds and healing difficulties, including establishing a diagnosis according to the etiology of the wound according to ICD 10.
- Managing the treatment of a patient with stoma.
- Managing the treatment of a patient suffering from sphincter incontinence.
- Management of medicine treatment of local pain associated with the wound and balance of symptoms.
- Independent management of comprehensive care in routine situations, including performing routine follow-ups.
- Identifying unusual situations and responding accordingly.
- Referral to laboratory tests, imaging and medical consultations, including for the health professions.
- Decision on initiating and continuing the provision of medical food preparations.
- The decision to initiate and continue treatment using medical technologies.
- Performing treatments in accordance with the authority.
- Counseling and training for patients, families and teams.
- Preventing morbidity and promoting health at all levels of prevention.
- The labeling of procedural guidelines and their implementation in the field.
- Preparation for discharge and maintaining continuity of care between wards, institutions and community.
Study program
The study program lasts about a year and includes 730 study hours, of which:
- 330 theoretical study hours
- 400 clinical hours
In the format of 2-3 study days a week
Prerequisites for applying to the program
- You have a Master's degree recognized in the State of Israel and at least one of the degrees in nursing.
- You have been employed for at least two years in the field.
- You have successfully completed and met the requirements of an advanced nursing course in one of the following areas:
- Intensive care for geriatric patients, gerontology
- Diabetes
- Rehabilitation
- Primary care (community medicine)
- Wounds and stoma

To apply, you will need to attach:
- CV that includes contact details and a photo.
- Certificates attesting to education (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, post-basic nursing course).
- Signature of the human resources department at the institution that employs you, approving employment in the field, on a public appeal form (Appendix 2).
- Reference letter by the nursing management at the employing institution.
