Medical treatment of patients undergoing rehabilitation procedures
Rehabilitation nurse practitioners provide medical care to patients undergoing rehabilitation in hospitals and in the community. What does the curriculum include and how to apply?
Rehabilitation nurse practitioners provide medical care to patients undergoing rehabilitation procedures in hospitalization and in the community. Among other things, they will be engaged in providing medical treatment to patients facing long – term health problems, while improving the quality of life, reducing motor, cognitive and medical complications, reducing pain and suffering and realizing and maximizing the rehabilitation process that the patient is going through.
Main activity of rehabilitation nurse practitioners:
- Assessment and evaluation of the patient's physical and emotional condition and deriving a rehabilitation plan.
- Referring the patient of diagnostic tests, including laboratory and X-ray tests.
- Identification of complications – prevention and treatment.
- Locating and identifying patients at risk of deconditioning – prevention and treatment.
- Concentration and coordination of treatment with different care providers.
- Regulation and medicinal balance according to the authorities.
- Treatment management in representative situations: concentration of the patient in braces, swallowing disorders, wounds.
- Providing support and assistance in dealing with the rehabilitation process (complex multidisciplinary treatment, biopsychosocial aspects, consumption of many health services).
Study program
The duration of the study program is about a year and it consists of 673 academic hours, of which:
- 273 theoretical academic hours
- 400 clinical academic hours
In the format of 2-3 study days a week
Prerequisites for applying for the program
- You have a Master's degree recognized in the State of Israel and at least one of the degrees in nursing.
- You have been employed:
- for at least one year in the field of rehabilitation.
or - for at least two years in fields where patients are referred to rehabilitation (such as internal medicine, surgery, neurology, orthopedics) - these candidates will be required to study specific materials and pass a preliminary proficiency exam before entering the program.
- for at least one year in the field of rehabilitation.
- You have successfully completed and met the requirements of an advanced nursing course:
- in one of the following areas:
- Rehabilitation
- Critical care (general)
- Intensive care of the geriatric patient, gerontology
- Candidates engaged in child rehabilitation – a course in intensive care for premature babies, newborns and children or a pediatric intensive care is also available
- in one of the following areas:
- Community primary care and continuous medication prescribing certificate
- Stroke certificate
- Oncology certificate
- Diabetes certificate
- Wound and ostomy certificate
- Emergency room certificate
- Heart failure certificate
These candidates will be required to study specific materials and pass a preliminary proficiency exam before entering the program.

- Certificates attesting to education (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, post-basic nursing course).
- Signature of the human resources department at the institution that employs you, approving employment in the field, on a public appeal form (Appendix 2).
- Reference letter by the nursing management at the employing institution.
