When I walked in that room, I didn’t know what closure expects me and what insights I will receive from this meeting
My name is Liana. I am the regional nurse of Ono-Sharon Region in Leumit Healthcare Services. I have 12 years' worth of seniority.
I started my career in the pediatric intensive care department in Tel HaShomer. I "grew up" in the department from the position of an intern to the position of deputy charge nurse.
Within the framework of my position I led projects, published them in literature and presented them in conferences. After my third maternity leave I decided to switch to community healthcare – a world full of challenges I never knew before!
One day, I walked into one of the clinics of which I am in charge. In the nurses' room sat a nurse with a 96-year-old woman patient, smiling and full of energy.
Shortly thereafter, the conversation between the three of us was flowing and saw many surprising twists and turns. "You know, she knew Ziva Tal!" the nurse told me excitedly. The late Ziva Tal was the manager of the nursing services in Sheba for almost two decades, and the nursing school in Tel HaShomer is named after her.
With great excitement I told her that back in my day, I was the recipient of the Ziva Tal award.
The patient stepped into the conversation and asked to learn more. "Yes", I told her, "over the course of my work I received three prestigious awards: Sheba's outstanding employee award, the Ziva Tal award and the Ruth Ron award".
Nurse and patient looked at each other with surprise, and then the patient addressed me: "Nice to meet you. I am Ruth Ron!" Wow! The woman and nursing legend! Such energy, such accomplishment, such dedication!
On my way home, I was deep in thought. I was thinking about the privilege that I had to affect the health of the children of the founders of Leumit. I was thinking about the closure: 9 years ago, I received the Ruth Ron award for creativity in training and currently I am training the teams that care for her. I was thinking about the enormous motivation booster that this meeting gave me: to improve and to be improved, in order to lead my outstanding staff to provide optimal care for anyone who seeks it.
