Nirit Horvald Kornfeld

Nurse in the kibbutz of Be'eri

Fought in Be'eri for hours to save the life of the wounded victims in the kibbutz.

Nirit recalls:
“I had already parted from my family. I never thought that we would get out of there alive”.

Nirit had lived in Be'eri for about five years and treated about 1,200 residents, from infants to the elderly.
“Being a nurse of a kibbutz is like being everyone’s daughter, everyone’s sister. It feels as if I was born in this place” she adds.

When the massacre began, Nirit fought for many hours to save lives but she was then forced to hide since many terrorists were throwing grenades and shooting nonstop as she was sending a farewell message to her family.
Two hours later, after hiding without moving, she heard Hebrew spoken by IDF soldiers on an army two-way radio. She then refused to evacuate and went back to rescue her family.
