Operating theater nurse at Assuta Ashdod Hospital

Alex saved many wounded people in the Gaza envelope.

Alex Shamis works as an operating theater nurse at Assuta Ashdod Hospital. On the morning war broke out, Alex was working the night shift. Following the sirens, the nurse from the next shift was late and Alex was held in the hospital.

When Alex returned home to Sderot, he checked on the wellbeing of his family and once he saw that everyone was all right, he left to provide assistance to others. Alex took the mobile intensive care ambulance from United Hatzalah where he volunteers as a paramedic and began administering medical care to the wounded.

He initially treated a soldier who was shot in the head. Alex provided life-saving first aid and transferred him to the hospital for further treatment.
He then traveled to the festival at Re’im, where he saved many wounded people.
From there, he continued to the kibbutz of Be'eri, where he treated soldiers who were wounded in the battles inside the kibbutz.

"I will never forget the scenes I saw and the faces of the wounded patients I treated", concludes Alex.
