Patients are at the center of doings

A surprising and touching meeting with a former patient, during a trip abroad, illustrated the great significance of our work, and the constant effect on the patients

    Clinical expertise in surgery

I have been in the profession for about 30 years, of which 15 years in Assuta. I have rich clinical experience accumulated over about 20 years in the field of intensive care (general, respiratory and heart and chest surgery). After working for about 8 years in an administrative position, it became clear to me that as you go up in the management level - you only get further and further away from the clinical field: from the patients and their families.

The patient is the center of action

This is not just a slogan. I was standing at a crossroads in my life on the issue of decision-making towards a change in my future voyage, and the decision came from "above" in all respects: "we want to interest you in something". That was how the head nurse, Tzipi Rosenberg Gilad, addressed me.

Following this, I joined the first clinical expertise course that got underway. It had been an experience of a change of stereotypes, of building new courses of action, and of decision-making. A considerable knowledge, acquired on the course, has been necessary.

I remember you, and I will always remember you, for the rest of my life

Let me share a short story: the year was 2010. My friend from Assuta and I were strolling in Marmaris, Turkey, markets. It was evening, and darkness had already fallen. All of a sudden, a woman approached us and said, "My dear girls, it is me, a former patient of yours. I was hospitalized for long days and nights in intensive care. If you find it hard to recognize me, it is because I had lost 60 kg. of weight! I remember you and I will always remember you, for the rest of my life. The way you treated me, and always said that although these were difficult times, it would pass, and everything would be fine. No wonder I recognized your voices in the dark. Here I am today, strolling and feeling well, and almost forgetting what I went through back then. I am so happy to see you, and naturally, we hugged and were very thrilled along with her.

Where are you today?

Today I am a clinical surgery nurse practitioner, at Assuta Hospital in Ramat HaHayal, in the General Surgery Department. In this role, I feel that each day I integrate the nursing care aspect, the emotional, warm, and supportive sides, with extensive professional knowledge, plenty of responsibility, and a decision-making process.

I got the right job, at the right place – I fulfilled my professional dream!
