Diabetes Nurse Practitioner deals with providing medical care to diabetic patients, including regulating and balancing the disease to a state that will allow daily functioning and quality of life, providing advice, guidance and training to patients, families and the medical staff, early detection of abnormalities in the patient's condition and referral to an appropriate medical entity.
The main activity of Diabetes Nurse Practitioner:
- Monitoring and direct treatment of diabetic patients.
- Referral to laboratory test, imaging and paramedical consultations.
- Initiation of medicine treatment, balance and replacement of medicine treatment in diagnosed diabetic patients.
- Identifying complications and prescribing a treatment plan.
• Identifying emergency situations and providing emergency care. - Performing unique treatments recognized to be performed by the specialist nurses as part of the treatment plan.
- Health promotion, training and prevention at the patient and community level.
- Counseling and training for patients, families and teams.
- Labeling of procedural guidelines and their implementation in the field of diabetes.
- Involving relevant multi-professional treatment factors in hospitalization and in the community.
Study program
The study program lasts about a year and includes 750 study hours, of which:
- 350 theoretical study hours in the format of 2 study days a week.
- 400 clinical hours in the format of 3 days a week.
Prerequisites for applying to the program
- You have a Master's degree recognized in the State of Israel and at least one of the degrees in nursing.
- You have been engaged and employed for at least two years in the field.
- You have successfully completed and met the requirements for an advanced diabetes course.
Applying for the program
The application is made through a public appeal.
To apply, you will need to attach:
- CV
- Certificates attesting to education (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, post-basic nursing course).
- Signature of human resources at the institution that employs you, approving employment in the field, on an application form (Appendix 2).
- Reference letter by the nursing management at the employing institution.
