Primary care nurse practitioners provide medical care to patients in community clinics. What does the curriculum include and how to apply?
Primary care nurse practitioners provide medical care to patients in HMO community clinics. Among other things, they provide medical care to patients in mild acute conditions, medical care and balancing of chronic patients, disease prevention and health promotion, training and providing advice to the patient and his family.
Main activity of primary care nurse practitioners:
- Examination of the patient and assessment of his condition.
- Referring the patient to diagnostic tests and consultants for further investigation or treatment.
- Medical treatment in acute and chronic conditions and according to its powers.
- Coordination of treatment, coordination with the community frame works, training and counseling for the patient and his family.
- Health promotion and disease prevention.
Study program
The study program lasts about a year and includes 1240 study hours, of which:
- 540 theoretical study hours
- 700 clinical hours
In the format of 2-3 study days a week
Prerequisites for applying to the program
- You have a Bachelor's degree recognized in Israel.
- Master's degree in nursing or public health or gerontology or one of the following: health system administration, health policy, emergency medicine, physical therapy, psychology, speech therapy, pharmacy, occupational therapy, general medicine, dentistry, nutrition and social work.
- If the Bachelor's degree is not in nursing, the Master's degree must be in nursing.
- You have been employed for at least five years in the field of primary care in the community.
- You have successfully completed and met the requirements of an advanced nursing course in primary care / gerontology / oncology / critical care / infection prevention and health promotion (public health)* / heart failure*.
*The eligibility of graduates of post-basic infection prevention and health promotion (public health) courses and post-basic heart failure courses - is conditioned upon amendment of the regulations.

To apply, you will need to attach:
- CV that includes contact details and a photo.
- Certificates attesting to education (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, post-basic course).
- Signature of the human resources department at the institution that employs you, approving employment in the field, on a public appeal form (Appendix 2) (Hebrew).
- Reference letter by the nursing management at the employing institution.
